College dropout

So I have been thinking about my education at the Y, once again instead of studying, and I thought...

1. In all reality am I REALLY going to use the knowledge of red shifts and Edwin Hubble in my life? I think the probability of me actually using Physical Science after my final is slim to none.

2. On that note, I thought of all my other classes, and I think out of all of them I will use floral design the most. I mean really Mrs. May- as much as I LOVE writing ten page reports on technical things that take me over 36 hours, I don't think that my paper on "The way to solve bovine cruelty in turn, increasing the general public's health" is really going to make a difference in any cow's life.

Don't get me wrong, I am grateful for my education, and my time at BYU, but I also will be extremely grateful for the time I decide to declare a major and the classes I take will actually be useful.

I have a good story as far as my education goes...

I decided that since I have played the violin for so many years, and stopped playing for two, that I would start up again and take some violin lessons. It turns out I get assigned to the most eccentric teacher ever. I don't know why I haven't mentioned him on here, but I should have because every lesson is quite the experience.

I will just say, I haven't played the violin once. One week we did yoga (yes, he's a yoga instructor). The next week we played the piano, and he got was disappointed to find out I didn't know the scales (I have never had a piano lesson in my life). The next week he was 10 minutes late then told me to pack up and follow him because he had a "special treat" turns out that "special treat" was a $600,000 violin. No joke.

He played it for me instead of my lesson. He's a violin major at BYU, what can I say? Oh yeah, and this week...he just never showed up. I have yet to hear from him. I was telling a girl in my floral class all of this, and she told me that she had taken a yoga class from him at Gold's Gym, and opened her eyes after her lesson because of a stringed instrument playing, it sounded live. He plays the violin there too apparently.

  2. sounds like a queer.

are you taking lessons through continuing ed or something like that?? sad to say...those teachers/students get paid even if they dont show up. or even if they never teach you a thing.

  3. i am so envious of you. my mother put me in front of a piano. so cliche. I hate the piano.... I have decided my small children will be torture and forced into playing neat things like the violin, the harp, and the cello. amen.

with love, nala (simba is my fav)

  7. I love your violin teacher. He sounds amazing. I'm a college drop out. Went for three years, dropped out, went to a trade school and got married. Never looked back. Actually, that is a lie. I did look back. I'm grateful that I went to a trade school because that's what's bringing in the cash flow while Matt's going to school, but I really do wish that I finished my college degree at the Lord's school in the pacific. (not that I had any plans of actually using what I learned there, but it's just the idea of having a bachelors degree that tickles my fancy).

  8. I went to Massage school for my "trade", but photography is my sort of hobby...it does bring in grocery $ though! I grew up doing photography for fun and for the school newspaper, high school stuff...and then just for fun I took a small photo class out of "a little sussy" (nicole hill)'s house. I pretty much just picked it up though.
